Education

Providing information and education about the lower Columbia River and estuary is one of the primary goals of the Estuary Partnership. The Estuary Partnership works collaboratively with existing programs, provides expertise and services that build on existing programs, and provides new environmental education programs and services in communities without them.

The Lower Columbia River Estuary Partnership offers a variety of resources for teachers and students about the Lower Columbia River and its habitats, and what they can do to protect it. Educational resources include:

Class Programs / Field Trips
Teacher Workshops
Service Learning
On-River Experiences
Kids for the Columbia
Kids Club Pledge

Numerous Actions in the Estuary Partnership Management Plan address education, most specifically:

Action 15: Provide public information and education efforts about the lower river and estuary that focus on endangered species, habitat loss and restoration, biological diversity, and lifestyle practices and connections to the river.

Action 15 implementation steps include:

  • Developing hands on opportunities
  • Conducting on-river classroom trips for adults and school children
  • Developing classroom preparation materials
  • Developing opportunities for hands-on field work

In all cases, the Partnership strives to provide non-biased information in ways that more personally and positively connect people to the lower Columbia River and help people make informed decisions about the river. The stewardship we build lasts a lifetime.
